Miguel Almario
Miguel began his dance and movement journey in 2004 when he learned Breakdance from DVDs, VHS tapes, and ultimately from other dancers in his local Maryland scene.
Miguel has always been a student and continues to delve into the history and cultural context of Hip-Hop and street styles. He studied under teachers such as Rashaad Hassani, Jade “Soul” Zuberi, David Castro, John Agesilas, Nedda Sou, JoJo Diggs, and Edson Guiu.
Miguel obtained his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the MGH Institute of Health Professions and has brought his passion for dance into the health and wellness sector with the aim of improving dance performance and longevity – Miguel has collaborated with Nike, Snap Inc, Asa Folkhögskola, and the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK).
Miguel is a co-founder of The Arete Project, a dance education company that aims to educate, empower, and equip students of all ages and experience levels with tools and knowledge to take control of their dance journey.
Miguel believes that advocating for the cultures that created these dances can deepen our understanding and enrich our experience with art forms and can help create just spaces.
